Once in a while I find a product that just blows me away and encourages me to leave all other products from that category behind and “put a ring on it” so to speak. Even if other products of the same style have impressed me in the past…I’m quick to forget about them in favor of a new wonder. The Transparent Lab Oil-Based Cleanser has been one of those products for me. And, in the past month, I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t really have a need to search for/trial other oil cleansers. This is it.
This lightweight and fluid oil cleanser features a pretty minimal ingredients list including squalane, vitamin e, and Crambe Abyssinica Oil (which is used for its hydrating and softening properties). The all-important (to me) PEG-20 is here as well to help emulsify and turn the oil into a milky/rinsable consistency. Although there is no added fragrance here, the formulation has a naturally imparted tang or tart scent to it that reminds me of rhubarb. I really like it!
What struck me about the Oil-Based Cleanser right out of the gate is how well it breaks up sunscreen, excess oil, and sweat from the day while still feeling incredibly lightweight and comfortable. It spreads nicely across the skin and maintains a nice slip throughout the application. Upon rinsing, it immediately becomes a watery/milky emulsion and comes off clean. There is no dryness or stripping effect, but rather it leaves my skin feeling cleansed and well hydrated. It creates the perfect setup for my water-based cleanser and the rest of my routine.
There is just something special about an oil cleanser that keeps things relatively simple while performing so well. I’ve never used a product that felt so lightweight and approachable while really removing surface gunk and leaving behind nearly perfect soft/hydrated skin. While I don’t wear traditional makeup (I just use SPF bronzing drops)…I could see this working for most people (other than maybe waterproof eye products).
The combination of an effective/approachable formula, a large size, and generally affordable price makes the Transparent Lab Oil-Based Cleanser an instant win for me and one that I will be keeping on hand at all times. While I do have four other oil cleansers in my stash to trial (all being cleansing balms)…once those are done I believe I’ve found a permanent member of my skincare routine. I absolutely love this product.
